Bruce Gaulin

Bruce D. Gaulin is a Distinguished University Professor and Brockhouse Chair in the Physics of Materials at McMaster University.  He received his undergraduate education at McGill University and his PhD from Physics at McMaster, graduating in 1986.  Following a two-year postdoc at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Gaulin returned to McMaster as an Assistant Professor in 1988 and has been at McMaster ever since.  At McMaster, he served as Director of the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research from 2009 – 2019.  Within the broader science community he has served as President of the Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering, President of the Neutron Scattering Society of America, and President of the Canadian Association of Physicists.  He is the recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, a Killam Research Fellowship and the Brockhouse Medal for Excellence in Condensed Matter Physics.   On sabbatical from McMaster in 2022 at l’université Paris-Saclay, he held the Jean D’Alembert Visiting Professorship.  Gaulin has been a Fellow of the Quantum Materials Program of CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) since 1999.  He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the Neutron Scattering Society of America and the Royal Society of Canada.
