Mr. Kevin Fitzgibbons retired from the federal public service as a senior executive in January 2022 with over 30 years of experience in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policy, strategy, and international relations.
Mr. Fitzgibbons is a strong communicator and bridge builder. He is passionate about public policy and governance issues related to knowledge-based economic development, environmental sustainability, social justice, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
Mr. Fitzgibbons began his career in 1991 as a policy and strategy officer with the National Research Council. In 2004, he was appointed to the position of Executive Director of the Office of the National Science Advisor in the Privy Council Office. In 2007, Mr. Fitzgibbons moved to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada), where he held the position of Director of International Innovation, Science and Technology. In 2013, he assumed the role of Executive Director of Corporate Planning and Policy at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and later went on to the position of Vice-President (Acting) Communications, Corporate, and International Affairs from 2020 to 2021. He was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. He is fluently trilingual (English, French, Spanish) and has worked with not-for-profit organizations in Colombia, Peru, and Kenya. Mr. Fitzgibbons holds a Master’s degree in Political Science (Économie politique) from l’Université de Montréal.
